Required Information for Paywall Setup

To set up the paywall, publishers need to provide the following information in the dashboard:

• Merchant ID
• API Key
• API Secret
• Plan Details: Plan Name, Amount, Duration (Time | Frequency)

This information is crucial for configuring the paywall and ensuring seamless integration with Razorpay for secure and efficient payment processing. Also, manual renewal and automatic subscription depend on what setting the publisher has opted for.

Razorpay Account Creation

Razorpay is a robust payment gateway that integrates seamlessly with the paywall system, ensuring smooth and secure subscription transactions. For account setup, refer to the following guide: Razorpay Account Setup

1. Razorpay Account Integration in PubLive

To get started, login to PubLive Dashboard

Step 1: Connect Razorpay

Navigate to Configuration > Paywall Configuration > Connect.

Fetch the Merchant ID, API Key, API Secret from Razorpay 

Step 2: Retrieve Razorpay Credentials

Merchant ID

API Secret & Key

Navigate to Accounts & Settings > API Keys > Generate Key

Note down Key ID and Key Secret from the pop-up page

Step 3: Complete Setup 

Enter the credentials and click Connect.  

Existing plans in Razorpay will appear automatically. If not, set them up as needed in Razorpay, or we can assist from the backend.

2. Subscription Plan Page Customization

Once connected, customize the subscription plan page and models from the dashboard: 

Step 1: Paywall Configuration 

Go to Configurations -> Paywall Configurations

Click Edit to edit/update any plans

Review the following details 

• Edit/Update plans (Plan Name, Plan Description, CTA Text, Plan Information)
• Recurring Payment and Billing Frequency fields are pre-filled and non-editable from Razorpay
• Review plan details using the plan preview on the right  
• Once done, click save

Step 2: Paywall Design 

This tab allows you to customize the paywall modal that appears on article pages

• Paywall Information: Enter the information to be displayed on the paywall modal.
• Paywall Preview: See a preview of how the paywall will appear with the provided information.
• Other Customizable Details:
  • Logo
  • Paywall background color
  • Paywall text color
  • Paywall button color
  • CTA text and CTA link
  • Optionally, add additional CTA buttons and links if needed

Step 3: Subscription Plans Landing Page Customization

Customize the subscription plans landing page using the following fields:

• Header Information: Create an engaging and informative heading with subtext to clearly communicate your plans and essential details.
• Plan Configuration: Simplify the configuration of your landing page by selecting and recommending plans to enhance user engagement.
• Additional Information: Enhance the user experience by adding extra details and information, such as FAQs, to provide a comprehensive and informative landing page.

Header Information 

Craft a captivating and informative heading to clearly convey your plans and essential information to your readers.

Plan configuration 

Existing plans from Razorpay, as well as new ones created upon request by publishers, will be available for selection and display on the landing page.

On hover on plans, can highlight any plans as recommended for the readers as shown below

Additional Information

Enhance your landing page with extra details to provide a comprehensive and informative user experience. Use blocks to add FAQs and other intuitive information that may be helpful to readers.

3. Setting up a paywall for the articles

Go to the Published section -> Edit the article

Set the Access level to Paid in the advanced Properties at the article level.

Readers will see the paywall at the bottom of the article. 

Clicking the CTA button takes them to the subscription plans landing page.

 Users will be prompted to log in if not already logged in and then taken to the plan page.

On selecting the plan, readers will be taken to payment gateway 

On payment successful, readers will be confirmed with payment completion

Razorpay sends payment receipt upon successful payment also for failed payments

Users will be redirected to the article page upon successful subscription.
